How to Reduce Your Cost of Printing

It is the goal for The Emperor to make a fortune by charging a fair price to many customers, NOT make a fortune by over-charging only YOU!

Many things can be done to minimize the cost of your printing, however, the responsibility to accomplish those things rests with you. ONE of the easiest ways to save money on your printing is to have your artwork (logo, etc.) in a clean, easily useable format so The Emperor doesn't have to clean it up or convert it from some obscure file type. If your artwork is process-ready when it is received, you will usually NOT be charged a setup charge, screen charge, or plate charge. These charges MAY apply if your printing requirements are complex or if you require some special service(s).

How to Submit Artwork

All artwork is not the same. Some is easy to work with and some is a pain in the A**. If it makes the Emperor's you-know-what hurt, the "Preparation H" is at your expense. The cost of this is euphemistically referred to on your invoice as the "setup charge" (or screen or plate charge) on your invoice. In most cases, there is no setup charge if you follow a few guidelines. E-mail the art department if you need assistance.

  1. If possible, send your artwork in a vector graphic format. This essentially means that the artwork is in the form of lines and not dots. Quark, Adobe Illustrator, and Corel Draw are the more common software suites that output vector graphics.

  2. Provide your artwork in the size it will be printed in. Printing artwork provided as a postage stamp as an 8 inch by 10 inch image on a T-shirt WILL result in a setup charge, for example.

  3. Electronic images usually require the least amount of work on the Emperor's part. Make certain that your electronic images are AT LEAST 600 d.p.i. (if .bmp, .tif, .jpg, etc. formats) or AT LEAST 75 lines per inch (for press printing or pad printing on advertising specialty products) and 55 lines per inch for screen printing on clothing.

  4. If you desire to have your image printed in more than one color, provide your artwork already color-separated as a black on white image for each color. Please do not forget the registration marks. Also, be certain to include a color composite so we can see what it is to look like after it is printed.

  5. If you mail your artwork to The Emperor, make sure it is a black image on glossy white paper, if possible (one sheet per color -- with registration marks). Putting your artwork on matte finish paper (like copy paper) will usually result in a setup charge being assessed.

If it is not possible for you to provide your artwork as described above, don't despair. The Emperor will work with you to ensure your printing is exactly what you want it to be. PROVIDING YOUR ARTWORK IN ANY FORMAT IS ACCEPTABLE! I will be happy to have my graphic artist clean, massage, color separate, convert, or redo your artwork. The charge for this type of service is $45 per hour, minimum of one-half hour ($22.50, for the math-challenged).

General Terms and Conditions

The Emperor guarantees all printing and product will meet your satisfaction. All mistakes, omissions and errors that are the fault of The Emperor (as ridiculous as that seems) or the peasants of the Empire (more likely) will be corrected at The Emperor's expense, or moneys paid will be refunded upon return of the printing and/or product to The Emperor. HOWEVER, mistakes that are the customer's are the customer's responsibility.

All orders will be binding upon the customer once artwork approval and/or a sales order has been signed by the customer.

Changes to orders require written approval from the customer. No work will be scheduled until written approval has been received. Please remember that changes can cause delays and neither The Emperor or anyone at Empire Express Print, Inc. accepts any responsibility for missed deadlines caused by changes requested by the customer. Approved changes will be billed at the rate of $15 each if they occur after initial approval and order placement on the schedule. NO charge will be incurred for changes made prior to scheduling UNLESS the requested change requires additional services or makes the printing more difficult. Should the changes be extensive, the work will be re-bid and a new approval will be required of the customer.

Orders from NEW CUSTOMERS will require a 50% deposit (for some products or services, additional prepayment may be required) and payment in full will be required prior to delivery. After their first order, customers may apply for a NET 30 account. If accepted, the customer may take up to 30 days after the invoice date to pay. Balances outstanding longer than 30 days will be assessed a 1% per month (or portion thereof) late fee, and will be turned over to The Emperor's attorney for collection after 90 days. NO additional orders will be accepted from a customer with a balance outstanding longer than 30 days.

PAYMENT can be made via personal or business check, cash, money order, wire transfer, VISA, MASTERCARD, and PAYPAL.

SAMPLES of clothing and promotional products are available and will be billed at full cost plus shipping (if applicable). Appropriate credit will be given against the order once placed. PRESS PROOFS and CUSTOM-PRINTED PRODUCT SAMPLES are also available and will be billed at full cost plus shipping (if applicable). Appropriate credit will be give against the order once placed.
